Final Thoughts: Kingdom Living

Wow. What an incredible summer it has been. I spent almost 2 months outside of America serving and I learned so much during that time. I talked about a lot of what God taught me in my previous posts, so I want to share with you all the main way in which God worked on my heart, and a big lesson that I learned.

I had often considered spending my life in missions and was definitely seeking for answers to that question during this summer.  God gave me an answer with great clarity. I am currently at Texas A&M University studying to be a high school math teacher and have thought for a few years that that’s exactly what I was going to do after graduation. I was spending time in reflection in Honduras and thought to myself, “I could glorify God in my profession as a math teacher, but what does His Kingdom need more? Good math teachers or missionaries?” The answer was clear to me. Barring any changes in my understanding of God’s plan for me, I am going to be a missionary. I may go into seminary for a couple years after college, but it seems very likely that after that, I will spend a significant amount of time making disciples in another nation. Whether it will be for the rest of my life or just a couple years, I am not sure. I’m sure there is much of God’s will that He has yet to reveal to me, but I am excited to continue my pursuit of Him and see where He takes me.

When you go on a mission trip, you spend a certain amount of time in a different community with your focus on making disciples. I learned this summer that one of the biggest mistakes we can make after these trips is thinking that that’s only something we can do in a different community. What we do on those trips should overflow into our everyday lives - we need to be making disciples no matter where we are. If you personally have never been on a mission trip, I strongly recommend going on one. It could very well change your life. Many of you reading this are probably in high school/college and may be unsure about what you’re future is going to look like. Here is a great quote that I heard once that I hope will help you to find clarity. I know it helped me.

“Find where your desires and the needs of the world meet, and go there.”

Isaiah 6:8
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
